We are excited to say that this year, Everett Elementary School will be teaming up with Artsonia, the world’s largest international children's art museum! Established in 2000 and based in Gurnee, IL, Artsonia is a free educational resource for children, families, and schools to display art projects. Artsonia integrates technology in the classroom, develops multicultural understanding through art and increases family involvement in a child's education.
As projects are completed throughout the school year, each new piece of art is uploaded and displayed on Artsonia. This allows us to build a living digital portfolio of each student’s work throughout their years at Everett School. Artwork is organized on Artsonia by grade level and project (or “exhibit”). Only the student’s first name is listed along with an ID number (screen name) to ensure privacy and safety. You should have received a letter similar to this one, along with your artist's screen name and security key. To sign up, all you need to do is go to www.artsonia.com, log in with this information, and then confirm registration via a follow-up email you will receive. After that, you’ll be able to find your child’s artwork, and you will be notified via email when new work is added. Once permission is granted for your child’s work to be published, you do not have to give it again. If you do not log in and give permission, Artsonia will not publish your child’s artwork on the website - we will only be able to see it for assessment and record keeping purposes.
Family members and friends can visit Artsonia and see their favorite artist’s work, as well as art from children all over the world. To find a particular artist, go to the Artsonia website, search for “Everett” and click on schools, or enter the student’s screen name. Students can write artist statements at school or from home, and you can leave a comment as a part of their fan club! You can even invite other family members to join your child’s fan club, so they can leave comments as well. (Comments must be parent-approved before they are posted). If you click on a specific work of art, it will take you to the Gift Shop where you can purchase your child’s artwork printed on a variety of items. This is not a requirement to use Artsonia. If you choose to make a purchase, however, twenty-percent of all sales will come back to Everett’s art program, to supplement our art budget!
All artwork is kept on Artsonia indefinitely and will move up with the child as he/she moves up a grade each year! You can even add work to your child’s portfolio from home, via the website, or Artsonia app. Artwork can be removed at any time if you should so desire. We hope you will visit Artsonia and check out our school gallery!
Sincerely,
Rachel Villeneuve & Lisa Vlamis
